Francis R. "Frank" Diaz

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, in-law, and friend.

Francis R. "Frank" Diaz, 83, of Chelmsford, MA passed away peacefully on Friday January 27, 2023, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA surrounded by his loving family.

He was the loving husband for 55 “wonderful” years to Maureen (Mullen) Diaz, who survives him. Frank and Maureen also enjoyed spending their winter months at their home in Clearwater, FL.

Born on October 24, 1939, in Billerica, Massachusetts, the son of the late Anthony R. and the late Helen (Story) Diaz, he attended Billerica schools and was a graduate of Billerica High School.

Frank was a longtime member of St. Margaret of Scotland Church in Lowell.

Prior to his retirement, Frank held the position of New England Manager for LaFarge North America Cement and Construction Materials, where he worked for many years.

A member of the Country Club of Billerica, he enjoyed playing with his golf buddies, not to mention his “hole in one”.

Besides his wife, Frank is survived by his daughter Theresa and her husband Don Roche of Southborough, MA; his grandsons Keenan Roche of West Newton, Ma and Nolan Roche of Somerville, MA; his nephews Stephen and his wife Dianne Diaz of Billerica, MA and Anthony and his wife Susan Diaz of Northford, CT, a dear cousin Doris Joncas of No, Billerica, MA; a very dear life-long friend Bob Sullivan of Billerica, MA.

Frank is also survived by his favorite in-laws Barbara and Bob MacNicholl of Chelmsford, MA, James Mullen of Clearwater, FL, Richard and Kathy Mullen of Chelmsford, MA, Ray Jurewicz of Pelham, NH and also many nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention but never forgotten.

He was the brother of the late Anthony R. Diaz.

Frank will always be remembered as one of the good guys by all who knew and loved him.

Shirley M. Huard

Beloved mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother;

Shirley M. (Anderson) Huard, 91, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 19, 2023, at Lowell General Hospital with her family by her side.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, April 11, 1931, the daughter of the late Herbert and the late Eva R. (Willette) Anderson, she was the last survivor of the Anderson’s twelve children. She received her education in the Lowell School system.

Prior to her retirement she worked as a crimper at the Bard Corp in Billerica for many years.

A devoted mother, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by three children Dana L. Huard, of Dracut, Diane L. Tanguay of Lowell, and David A. Huard of Sandia Park, NM; nine grandchildren Randy Huard, Kevin J. Tanguay and his wife April, Keith L. Tanguay, Shannon Capen, Shannon Harris and her husband Mike, David J. Huard and Michelle R. Huard, Chelsea Tousley and her husband Garrett, Brooke Duda and her husband Garrett; twelve great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.

She was the mother of the late Dennis C. Huard, who past way in 2020.

James A. Sullivan
Retired Treasurer of The University of Massachusetts Lowell;

James A. Sullivan, 87, of Westford, Massachusetts and formerly of Chelmsford, a devoted husband and father, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday January 15, 2023, at Lowell General Hospital with his family by his side.

He was the loving husband for over 61 years of Dorothy F. (Donahue) Sullivan, who survives him.

Born in Andover, Massachusetts, September 3, 1935, the son of the late Augustine P. and the late Mary T. (Picard) Sullivan, he was a graduate of Central Catholic High School Class of 1953 and received his Bachelor of Science in Science from Merrimack College in 1957.

Jim went on to receive his Master’s in Business Administration from Fitchburg State College.

He proudly served his country as a Sergeant First Class with the U.S. Army and continued his service as a Reservist with the National Guard.

Jim's 48 year career in the University system began at Lowell Technological Institute, then the University of Lowell, ultimately working years as the treasurer of the University of Massachusetts Lowell. After a brief retirement, he returned to work part time for the Dean of Arts and Sciences until age 78.

An active member of his community, Jim served as the former Chairman of the Chelmsford High School Building Committee and was a former communicant of St. Mary’s Church where he also taught religious education. He enjoyed golfing and was a past member of Vesper Country Club.

Jim was an avid tennis player for over 50 years and coordinated the Tuesday Night Tennis League every week at Trull Brook Tennis Club.

Jim also had his private pilot’s license. His children fondly recall the flight to Martha's Vineyard for lunch as a great adventure.

His greatest joy was the time he spent with his family, especially his children, grand and great grandchildren. Telling each how much he loved them with regularity.

Besides his wife, Jim is survived by four children Dorothy F. Semonian and her husband Ralph G. of Westford; James A. Sullivan Jr and his wife Wendy Bean of East Burke, VT; Ellen M. Grondine and her husband Thomas of Westford; and Catherine M. Olszowy and her husband Andrew of Westford; eight grandchildren- Edward R. Flood, III, Matthew J. Flood, Elizabeth C. Flood, LT Victoria D. Medved, Thomas J. Grondine, Catherine M. Grondine, Ellen F. Olszowy and Olivia V. Olszowy; three great grandchildren Mackenzie B. Flood, Cash E. Flood, and Fiona F. Flood; a brother John “Jack” Sullivan and his wife Ellen of Andover and many nieces and nephews, near and far.

He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Cotting and the late Ann Marie Rae.

Effie Tyros

Beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt

Effie (Chaparas) Tyros, 91, of Lowell, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Thursday January 12, 2023, at D'Youville Senior Care in Lowell, MA surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of the late George Tyros who died in 1967.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, October 13, 1931, the daughter of the late Demetrius and the late Panagiota (Goulas) Chaparas, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School.

A proud mother and homemaker for her family, Effie also worked in her early years and later years at her brother's store, Chuck's Variety in the Highlands section of Lowell.

Effie is survived by her daughter Helene T. Tremblay and her husband Kevin of Pelham NH; a son Charlie G. Tyros and his wife Donna of Nashua, NH; a granddaughter Alexis N. Tyros of Nashua, NH; her grand dogs Layla & Zeus; her brother-in-law James Tyros of New Ipswich, NH; and several nieces and nephews;

She was also the sister of the late Chuck Chaparas, Bessie Carr and Dr. Sotirios "Sam" Chaparas
