Audrey Marie Ambrosino
Audrey Marie Ambrosino, beloved wife of Gregg Lamping, passed away after a sudden medical incident in the early hours of February 27, 2023.
Audrey had an unmatched passion for life. A fiercely loyal wife, friend, and teacher, she packed her life full of adventure, from her beginnings in the Acre of Lowell to the Orosí Valley of Costa Rica, where she lived for the last 12 years.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on December 6, 1965, she was the daughter of the late Amelia “Mitzie” (Mitsopoulos) Ambrosino and the late Franklin D. Ambrosino. Audrey was educated in Lowell Schools, Class of 1983. She went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science at Suffolk University, a Master’s Degree in Public Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and a Doctorate in Education at Georgia State University.
Along the way, she had a long career at the Lowell National Historical Park, beginning her time there as a high school intern to becoming the park’s public information officer. Her passions included serving as a founding member of the Women’s Week Celebrations, being a key organizer of the Lowell Folk Festival for many years, and volunteering at the Smithsonian FolkLife Festival. She also worked alongside Gregg at Folk Festivals all over the country; he as a sound engineer and she as master of all trades.
Audrey loved a good party, great jokes, and her smile, laughter, and quick-wittedness ensured everyone was welcome and had a great time. After completing her Doctorate in education and living in Atlanta together for some years, Audrey and Gregg began a new adventure in 2010 in the Restaurant business, where they served drinks, food, and had live music. Ever grateful for their newfound community, every year she and Gregg hosted many neighborhood families for their annual Christmas celebration. Along with hosting the event, they made sure that each and every child left with a gift.
In recent years she took her education stewardship to a new level by hosting students in her adopted country for a conservation and cultural exchange program. At the time of her death, Audrey was on the faculty of Georgia State University, Middlesex Community College, and Tiffin College as an online adjunct professor.
In addition to her husband, Audrey is survived by her sisters Leslie A. Ambrosino and Buffy Spencer and her brother Anthony J. Ambrosino and his wife Heidi Plouffe. She was also the sister of the late Lynne F. (Ambrosino) Kalil, as well as several nieces and nephews.
